The Transportation Specialist reports to the Program Director and ensures transportation for consumers to and from a variety of sites in the community and ensuring the safety of all passengers while operating the assigned van/car in a safe operating condition at all times. 


  1.  Conduct established safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.

  2.  Monitor consumers with special health problems while in van/car; receive written or oral instructions, aware and alert to any signs of difficulty.

  3.  Transport and deliver personal belongings, messages and memos between clients and staff, collect and return client's personal property when entering and disembarking vehicle.

  4.  Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle, workstation, parking lot, and assigned areas.

  5.  Maintain a variety of records and reports including but not limited to mileage, maintenance, and transportation schedules.

  6.  Attend meetings, programs, and in-service training as assigned.

  7.  Notify appropriate individuals of any delays in scheduled route.

  8.  Ensure all consumers are properly in seatbelts and or safety seats.

  9.  Establish and maintain safe and efficient transportation routes and follow traffic laws at all times.

  10.  Ensure the van/car is in safe condition and good working order in accordance with program standards and procedures, notifying the Program Director of vehicle maintenance needs as necessary.

  11.  Responsible for proper use of credit card purchases of van fuel as needed, ensuring timely submittal of gas receipts.

  12.  Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the consumers, communicating with them on a regular basis.

  13.  Assist consumers in connecting with community resources and services by walking clients into appointment offices and provide support.

  14.  Ensure trailer is properly inspected, connected to vehicle, brake lights and signals are working, and items are securely fastened within the trailer.

  15.  Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.

  16.  Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.

  17.  Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner and perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

  1.  High School diploma or equivalent

  2.  Ability to report for work on short notice and to have communication facilities available that can be used to provide such notice.

  3.  Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while operating a vehicle and trailer. 

  4.  Read and write in English at a level sufficient to successfully perform required duties.

  5.  Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

  6.  Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid prior to employment. 

  7.  Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft.

  8.  Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.  Agency insurer authorization is required.

  9.  Possess a Commercial Driver License with a transport passenger vehicle endorsement, able to drive a 12-passenger vehicle. 

  10.  Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  11.  Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.

  12.  Must maintain good relationships with consumers, co-workers, government and civic representatives, as well as community members within whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.
