JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health Rehab. Specialist reports to the Program Director and provides specialized services to clients in gaining access to needed medical, social, housing, economic, educational, and other direct services.   

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Assist in the accomplishment of the treatment plan for Children's Mental Health program clients under the supervision of the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor, by screening, evaluation and identification of specific case management activities.

2.  Employees shall follow the reporting requirements for incidents of Child Abuse, Elder Abuse, Adult Abuse, Dependent Adult Abuse and Tarasoff warnings per California reporting laws. 

3.  Will manage referrals via telephone, walk-in, fax or email.

4.  Ensure all new referrals are logged and entered into the Avatar Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a timely manner.

5.  Meet directly with parents/guardians to complete initial admission documentation and enter new episodes in in the Avatar EMR.

6.  Will provide crisis evaluation assessments, including the use of de-escalation techniques, develop contingency plans, make recommendations for involuntary hold placement and interface with county psychiatric emergency team staff. Will enter new episodes in the Avatar EMR as part of crisis documentation.

7.  Will provide therapeutic behavioral services (TBS) to consumers, as assigned by Team Leader.

8.  Will provide personal service agreement (PSA) services, as assigned by Team Leader.

9.  Will provide mental health related rehabilitation services to identified and assigned clients.

10.  Will help client's learn new and improve upon their social skills.

11.  Will maintain a concrete behavioral focus while working with clients.

12.  Will conduct targeted case management evaluations and will refer cases to appropriate agencies as indicated.

13.  Will document all progress notes in the client's electronic medical record (EMR) by 10:00 am of the following business day.

14.  Will attend job-related trainings and also participate in a variety of in-service training, seminars, and practicum.

15.  Will attend weekly staff meetings and weekly supervision meetings.

16.  Perform other tasks when asked by the Team Leader or Program Director, as time allows.

17.  Will think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies. 

18.  Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.

19.  Will drive on Agency business.

20.  Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at Turning Point. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Late arrival, early departure or other absences from scheduled hours are disruptive and must be avoided.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.  Bachelor's degree in social work or counseling in a related field and four (4) years full-time work experience providing direct client services in a mental health, social service, educational or similar environment; or educational achievement equivalent to 60 college semester units in social work or a related field and six (6) years post educational, full-time work experience providing direct client services in a mental health, social services, educational or similar environment.

2.  Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.

3.  Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken Spanish and/or Asian preferred.

4.  Work effectively with diverse ethnic, religious, socioeconomic and professional groups of people.

5.  Plan, coordinate, and facilitate services for clients of the Children's Mental Health programs.

6.  Assist the Mental Health Professional and Clinical Psychologist in screening and identification activities.

7.  Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

8.  Ability to operate within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. 

9.  Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.  Agency insurer authorization is required. 

10.  Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.

11.  Ability to obtain criminal records clearance check.

12.  Must maintain good relationships with consumers, co-workers, government and civic representatives, as well as community members within whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR BILINGUAL SKILL DIFFERENTIAL

1.  Ability to communicate effectively in spoken Spanish.

2.  Ability to communicate effectively in written Spanish.

3.  Required to communicate effectively in Spanish to assist in phone coverage or meetings needed.

4.  Required to provide Spanish language translation as needed.

5.  Minimal adequate competency in the Spanish language as evidenced by successful passage of the TPOCC Spanish Competency Test.

6.  Other Spanish language translation tasks as required.
