JOB SUMMARY

The Employment Specialist reports to the Program Administrator under the supervision of the Program Director.  The Employment Specialist works cooperatively with the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) in participant service delivery.  The Employment Specialist works closely with the employer community in the development of work experience opportunities for program participants.  The Employment Specialist provides pre-employment skills training and job placement. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducts employment and related workshops.
  2. Provides individual and group job-related instruction and mentoring.
  3. Develops job leads and arranges interviews.
  4. Provides volunteer and work experience site development.
  5. Provides case management services.
  6. Works cooperatively with the MDT in participant service delivery.
  7. Attends the Silver Star Program weekly meeting. 
  8. Prepares and monitors all participant status rosters and related forms.
  9. Sets up new client files and performs file maintenance in accordance with contract.
  10. Maintains database of initial inquiry and placement statistics.
  11. Responsible for in-house rosters and statistical report maintenance.
  12. Answers phone and handles or routes to appropriate staff.
  13. Generates program forms and updates hard copy binder.
  14. Coordinates and purchases client support service needs.
  15. Provides Employer and Community awareness education.
  16. Maintains all office files.
  17. Observes all regulations and Turning Point personnel policies and procedures.
  18. Attends training seminars as required.
  19. Will drive on Agency business.
  20. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at Turning Point. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Late arrival, early departure or other absences from scheduled hours are disruptive and must be avoided.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school graduate; some business college preferred.
  2. Four years' experience in a business office.
  3. Community service work experience.
  4. Group facilitation experience.
  5. Word and Excel proficiency.
  6. Bookkeeping skills, business math.
  7. Excellent verbal and written skills.
  8. Bilingual Spanish/English helpful.
  9. Ability to work on site with limited supervision.
  10. Ability to use equipment necessary to complete the responsibilities of the job.
  11. Skillful in working with court-involved youth ages 15-19.
  12. Mature judgment.
  13. Ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality, integrity, and tact.
  14. Possession of valid driver's license and access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated per requirements of all laws.
  15. Clean driving record.
  16. Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and criminal records clearance checks.
  17. Must maintain good relationships with clients, co-workers, government representatives and any other with whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.
  18. Ability to work as part of a team.
