JOB SUMMARY

The Employment Specialist reports to the Program Director and works closely with the employer community in developing job opportunities for adults with multiple barriers to employment while assessing individuals for job readiness and assisting those qualified in the development of the skills necessary to secure and retain employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Conduct orientation, eligibility, initial assessment and enrollments to meet Proposition 47 program enrollments goals.

2.  Facilitate all program assessment, job-readiness, job search, and workshops.

3.  Provide individual job-related counseling and training.

4.  Maintain updated training curriculum to reflect client and community awareness.

5.  Develop new training curriculum as needed.

6.  Maintain all training materials and equipment.

7.  Prepare all training workbooks and visual tools.

8.  Administer and interpret assessment tools.

9.  Maintain caseload files and documentation in accordance with Proposition 47 regulations.

10.  Develop job leads, arrange interviews and coordinate appropriate and efficient placement.

11.  Develop and maintain database of employers receptive to hiring adults with barriers to employment.

12.  Develop and maintain up-to-date labor market information relative to career counseling.

13.  Develop Individual Employment Plan with clients.

14.  Conduct Marketable Work Habits instruction with clients.

15.  Maintain caseload of Proposition 47 participants, providing effective assistance with their individual plan.  

16.  Coordinate and purchase client supportive services needs and track supportive services expenditures.

17.  Work closely and cooperatively with other program staff in client's behalf and in all service delivery.

18.  Provide outreach and recruitment in accordance with Employment Program needs.

19.  Cross train in other program job duties and performs other tasks as assigned by the Program Director.

20.  Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.

21.  Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.

22.  Drives on Agency business.

23.  Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at Turning Point. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Late arrival, early departure or other absences from scheduled hours are disruptive and must be avoided

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.  Associate of Arts degree or equivalent education/experience in business, counseling, social service, or related field.

2.  Ability to work with and develop jobs for adults with multiple barriers to employment.

3.  Ability to work in the community with limited supervision.

4.  Must be able to use personal vehicle for job search, transporting clients, and other agency business.

5.  Ability to work as part of a team cooperating with supervisor and co-workers in order to provide the optimum customer service.

6.  Proficient in computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

7.  Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.  Agency insurer authorization is required. 

8.  Ability to pass a criminal background check.

9.  Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.

10.  Must maintain good relationships with consumers, co-workers, government and civic representatives, as well as community members within whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.
