JOB SUMMARY

The Employment Specialist reports to the Program Director and works closely with the employer community in developing job opportunities for ex-offenders while assessing individuals for job readiness and assisting those qualified in the development of the skills necessary to secure and retain employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Facilitates all employment readiness, job search and job retention workshops.

  2.  Conducts client assessments.

  3.  Provides individual job-related counseling and training.

  4.  Updates training curriculum reflective of client and community awareness.

  5.  Maintains the office Information and Referral resource center.

  6.  Keeps current all training materials and maintains equipment.

  7.  Prepares all training workbooks and visual tools.

  8.  Purchases, maintains and sets up food and beverages for trainings.

  9.  Administers and interprets assessment tools.

  10.  Manages client information/case management in the ETO system.

  11.  Maintains caseload files and documentation in accordance with program regulations.

  12.  Develops job leads, arranges interviews and coordinates appropriate and efficient job placement.

  13.  Develops and maintains database of employers receptive to hiring ex-offenders.

  14.  Develops and maintains up-to-date labor market information relative to ex-offender career counseling.

  15.  Works closely and cooperatively with other program staff in client's behalf and in all service delivery.

  16.  Represents the agency at the MC Probation RAP meetings and other community forums.

  17.  Provides outreach and recruitment in accordance with Employment Program needs.

  18.  Cross trains in other program job duties and performs other tasks as assigned by the Program Director.

  19.  Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.

  20.  Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.

  21.  Drives on Agency business.

  22.  Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at Turning Point. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Late arrival, early departure or other absences from scheduled hours are disruptive and must be avoided.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1.  Associate of Arts degree or equivalent education/experience in business, counseling, social service, or related field.

  2.  Ability to work with and develop jobs for ex-offenders.

  3.  Ability to work in the community with limited supervision.

  4.  Ability to work as part of a team cooperating with supervisor and co-workers in order to provide the optimum customer service.

  5.  Proficient in computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  6.  Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.  Agency insurer authorization is required. 

  7.  Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  8.  Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.

  9.  Must maintain good relationships with consumers, co-workers, government and civic representatives, as well as community members within whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.
