The Cook reports to the Program Director and is responsible for cooking quantity foods for the facilty in compliance with contract requirements for the program. 


1.  Prepare the meals at the facility for all residents, taste test food, and reserve sampling for contamination testing (24 hours).

2.  Be responsible for food purchasing and proper storage, meal planning and serving.

3.  Deliver and follow approved menus that meet CDC nutritional standards.

4.  Supervise residents cooking or working in the kitchen/dining areas.

5.  Ensure the sanitation and serving requirements meet the local health department requirements.

6.  Develop written procedure for dispensing and retrieving all utensils during and after meals.

7.  Will drive on Agency business as needed.

8.  Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.

9.  Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.

10.  Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at Turning Point. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Late arrival, early departure or other absences from scheduled hours are disruptive and must be avoided.

  1.  High school diploma/GED and one (1) year experience in preparing quality and quantity food and/or culinary education. 

  2.  Food Handlers certification.

  3.  Current certified training in emergency first aid procedures and CPR.

  4.  Ability to plan and prepare well-balanced meals.

  5.  Ability to follow the menu in preparing the daily food listed.

  6.  Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  7.  Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.  Agency insurer authorization is required. 

  8.  Ability to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment physical, drug screen, and TB test.

  9.  Must maintain good relationships with consumers, co-workers, government and civic representatives, as well as community members within whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.
